Song of the Eagles

Queen of Yue

Lo, how enviable are th’ eaglesThe image of the eagle symbolizes freedom.

Hovering in the azure skies at ease!

Now alighting on th’ isles for fish and shrimps,

Now flapping to enjoy heavenly peace,

They do come down and go up as they please.

Oh, I’m not guilty of offending th’ Earth

And Heaven, how come a penalty so stern?

I’m hastened north lonely with th’ king;

Who knows when we’d be allow’d to return?

Alas, my tears roll down like chains of pearlsThis clause contains the device of simile.,

And grief and cares in my aching heart burnHere the word “burn” is a case of metaphor.!
